Rubʿ Al-Khali – The Empty Quarter

Liwa Oasis is located around 200 km south-west of Abu Dhabi on the northern edge of the Rub’ Al Khali Desert (The Empty Quarter). The 100 km long oasis is almost the only life-giving place in the otherwise almost uninhabited and hostile desert, which can be reached on the roads E12 and E62, both of which continue on the E11 towards Abu Dhabi.

Tel Moreeb (Arabic for ‘scary hill’) is the highest dune at Liwa oasis and one of the highest sand dunes in the world. The dune is almost 300 metres high and the 50 degree incline to the top makes it a prime destination for motor sports lovers. Every year in winter, the region’s best four wheel drivers and quad bikers compete in the Moreeb Hill Climb event.

The magnificent Qasr Al Sarab is a luxurious five-star resort at Liwa oasis, where you can experience lots of desert activities, like camel trekking, falconry shows and camp fire barbecues.
